Scholarships

There are scholarships for college and university that are of directed at students who have a physical disability. Scholarship applications are usually due in the early spring of the year before the student commences their studies in September. Contact the individual scholarship organizations to obtain the application criteria and deadline submission dates.

In addition to the scholarships listed below, contact the university or community college directly to obtain information on other scholarships that might be available.

Easter Seals Scholarships – Applications due May 1, 2020.

Easter Seals Ontario manages the following scholarship funds. Please note applications are now available on the Easter Seals Ontario Services website.

  • Easter Seals Ontario Board of Directors Scholarship

    Open to current or former Easter Seals Ontario youth or young adults with physical disabilities attending college or university in fall 2020. Preference to a student who has been an active volunteer in their community.

  • Easter Seals Ontario Scholarships

    Five scholarships open to current or former Easter Seals Ontario youth or young adults with physical disabilities attending college or university in fall 2020.

  • Hira Scholarship Fund

    Open to all youth and young adults with physical disabilities attending university.  Preference to a student who serves as a model and inspiration for others.

  • John Domenic Caggiula Memorial Scholarship

  • Open to all youth and young adults with physical disabilities attending college or university. Preference to a student in a skilled trades program at college or university.
  • Kevin and Christy Kelly Scholarship

  • Open to all youth and young adults with physical disabilities attending post secondary education. Preference to a student pursuing a finance or business degree.

Other Scholarships Available for Students with Physical Disabilities

AUCC Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

For undergraduate studies in any field of study at any Canadian degree granting institution or community college.

Dr. E. Bruce Hendrick Scholarship Program

The program was established to encourage and support students with spina bifida and or hydrocephalus to develop independence and responsibility for their own future educational directions and to assist students to pursue higher education with the ultimate goal of obtaining a degree or graduate certificate or diploma. Value: will be determined on an annual basis.

Empowered Kids Ontario Scholarship

The Empowered Kids Ontario Scholarship Program was established to recognize youth who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and volunteerism in the community, and have benefited from services and supports offered by a Children’s Treatment Centre. Applicants must have been a client of an Ontario Children’s Treatment Centre. Selection criteria include demonstrated leadership in school and/or in their community, a personal statement, and recommendations by school and community mentors.

Kevin Collins Abilities Scholarship – Friends of We Care

The Kevin Collins Abilities Scholarship, is presented to a post-secondary student with a disability.  Students with a disability, who have successfully completed one year in his or her post-secondary education and/or equivalent trades education and are continuing such program, are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS)

A consumer organization with a mandate to encourage self empowerment of post-secondary students with physical disabilities. The website has a list of various Student Awards/Financial Aid.

Bloorview School Authority Bursary

For a student with a physical disability who plans to pursue post secondary education at University, College or any other centre of post secondary education in the fall.

Whipper “Billy” Watson Education Bursary

The bursary has been established to assist students with physical disabilities in full time study at an Ontario College of Arts and Technology. Bursaries are granted each year to one male and one female applicant who demonstrate potential for studies at the Community College level.

Other Scholarships

These scholarships are for students with disabilities.  There are many other scholarships that you may be eligible to apply for based on your field of study, community connections, academic and athletic achievement and many other criteria.  Talk to the guidance department at your high school for more information on scholarships.
