Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) Process is legislated under Regulation 181/98

Regulation 181/98, Identification and Placement of Exceptional Pupils, is one of the most important foundations of special education in Ontario. The regulation outlines the process for establishing an Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC), deciding whether a student is identified as exceptional, the category of exceptionality, the placement decision, and the requirement for an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The regulation also details the parent/guardian’s right to request an IPRC and appeal the decisions of the IPRC, as well as the need for an annual reiew.

As the mother of two girls, one with cerebral palsy, I have been advocating in the school system for almost 25 years. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography and never expected to become so involved with the school system and supports for students with disabilities.
