Presentation – Assistive Technology to Support Student Success

Assistive Technology Improving Student Outcomes by Rahila Chughtai and Alana Shields Barker who are both parents of a child with special education needs.  This handout is from one of the sessions that was not webcast from the conference.  The presentation provides three examples of how assistive technology has improved participation and performance at school.

The Keys to Special Education, Advocacy, Collaboration and Knowledge conference was organized by Easter Seals Ontario in partnership with Three to Be Foundation and Children’s Treatment Network of Simcoe York.  Webcasts of the conference sessions were made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Education, Parent Engagement Office.

As the mother of two girls, one with cerebral palsy, I have been advocating in the school system for almost 25 years. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography and never expected to become so involved with the school system and supports for students with disabilities.
