Parent involvement continues to be important at high school

Parents are the expert on their child and continue to have a great deal to contribute at high school. Course selection is critical as it can impact opportunities after graduation. Students continue to need effective Individual Education Plans, and may need help in advocating for their needs with the multiple teachers involved in their high school program.

Success at high school starts with effective transition planning from elementary school and support to help the students become more independent and able to self-advocate for their needs. Articles in this section cover these and other related topics.

A little about Alison

As the mother of two girls, one with cerebral palsy, I have been advocating in the school system for almost 25 years. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography and never expected to become so involved with the school system and supports for students with disabilities.
