This chart highlights the differences between elementary, secondary and post-secondary school. In particular it looks at how students are identified as having special education needs, how needs are addressed and accommodated. At college and university students are expected to be independent and parents will not have access to student information, without the express written consent from the student.

[…] Modifications are a useful strategy for students with special education needs and they are very appropriate at elementary school. However, for high school the modifications may prevent the student from achieving a course credit. At post-secondary school, colleges and universities, modifications are not allowed at all.
